I Got Rhythm (and a voice like none other)

Image
Ethel Merman has a voice like none other! Her belting style is something I wish music of today still had. Some artists have pipes similar to hers, but if it is used today it is such a different style. Her voice, in my opinion, really makes the song what it is. Although I do think this song would be much different with a different voice type, I still think the music itself is very rich, interesting, and can stand on its own. You can hear many different brass instruments, and it just feels like New Orleans (assuming that that is in fact what New Orleans feels like..). This is some of my favorite Jazz that we've listened to in class because of the energy and upbeat. It is very different from some of the other earlier Jazz we listened to. It has none of the "crooning" or that soft, calm effect that so many of the others have. I love when she cuts off her sentences a little short, and belts the last word instead of singing it with the rest of the sentence. It helps me pay atte...

Ain't Misbehavin'

Ain't Misbehavin' was a song I remembered enjoying listening to, but also remembered thinking it could potentially be difficult to right about. I'm not sure exactly what those original thoughts were thinking, but this song had many different elements and was as enjoyable to listen to as it was to closely examine. The first thing I noticed was how long it took for lyrics to come into play. It was literally almost an entire minute, which I feel like is actually fairly common but the style of the song is just kind of naturally slower anyway so it felt like quite a bit longer than just one minute. Anyway, Louis Armstrong. I both adore and question his voice. It's far from smooth, but it almost gives off a calming vibe. His singing matches the style of music perfectly, they both kind of drag together and keep you waiting for the next note, ...

Introducing Me

Image
Hey! My name is Lauren and I love music! Whether it's listening to a good playlist, or dancing in my room, or watching someone play an instrument, or pretending I know how to play an instrument myself- I love it all! I have loved it most of my life, but that love really grew into a passion when I got into high school. I sang in choir, taught myself to play the piano (my absolute favorite instrument, and one of my favorite hobbies) and started learning to play the guitar. My piano skills got good, I still enjoy singing but mostly do it for fun now, and my guitar serves as a nice piece of decor in the corner of my room. :) The only thing I feel I'm missing musically in my life is drums. I'd love to learn to play the drums.    My favorite music genres tend to range a lot, but consistently it includes new wave , alternative roc...
